The African Goshawk (Accipiter tachiro) is found in the following African countries: Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Many authorities considered this species to be conspecific (of, or belonging to, the same species) with the Red-chested Goshawk of western and central Africa (BirdLife International 2007).
