Norfolk Black Turkeys
Turkeys
The Norfolk Black Turkey should have a lustrous greenish black plumage.
Males weigh 18-25 lbs; females between 11-13 lbs.
This turkey is not extensively bred in America, but in Europe is considered one of the finest turkeys for the table, and is bred with success in Norfolk and Normandy in France.
The French Black Turkeys are pure, rich black, whilst Norfolk Blacks in England are dull black, with brown and eoccasionally white tips showing (this has happened with selective breeding after the 1920s as prior to this the breeds were identical).
The French blacks are the hardiest. In middle Europe the Black turkeys are smaller in size.
